Lesson 1- Yuddha Summary in English

Chapter-1

ಯುದ್ಧ

 (ಪಾಠದ ಸಾರಾಂಶ-Summary)

(There is a war going on between two countries. An aeroplane is flying above a river.)

The Pilot in the plane says to a doctor named Raheel that the contact system in the aeroplane or the radio of the aeroplane is not working and that due to the darkness he was also unable to land the plane on the ground. Suddenly there is a bomb blast on the plane, due to which it falls down into the river over which it was flying in hundreds of pieces.

Raheel be’s alive and one of his leg gets injured but he tries his level best and starts swimming. He could not identify which direction he was going- whether it was the bank of the river or with the flow of the river.  He somehow manages to come to the bank, he had lost all of his hope on what will happen, suddenly when there is a flash of lightning which occurs due to heavy rainfall and falls on a single and a lonely house on looking at which Raheel regains all of his strength and interest in living and somehow tries to reach the house from where he could hear the noise of crying and sadness.

He goes to the door and asks the old lady to open the door and says that he was severely injured. She opens the door. She had white hair, wrinkled face and a small lamp in her hand and inquired if he was from her country or not. He replies that he was not with those people who fought like fools out there but rather he was with those people who helped the helpless and the pained. From inside he could hear another painful voice and asked who’s voice that is and what has happened. The old lady replies that it is her daughter-in-law who is pregnant but due to the war going outside and because of the imposement of the blackout rule she was unable to take her daughter-in-law to the hospital. He says that he was a doctor and asks the permission of the old lady to test her. The old lady’s tension, sorrows and worries all turn into joy for some time and she says that her God has sent him to help them. She sees that his clothes were too wet so she goes inside and gets her son's clothes and gives it to him. Rahul changes the clothes sitting by himself due to the severe pain he was suffering from. The lady shows him the room where her daughter-in-law was.

Raheel requests the old lady to boil some hot water and after a lot of hard work and a lot of time the delivery was successful but the born child was dead. The old lady and her daughter-in-law cried a lot in such a way that their noise of crying was audible in every corner of the house. Raheel then comes out and asks the old lady for a few pieces of cloth to tie around his injured leg, the old lady was still doubtful whether he was from her country or not, suddenly when 4 to 5 people in an army uniform come and knock on the door and ask to open the door. The old lady’s doubt turns out to be true. She becomes very furious but then she sees that Raheel's eyes were similar to her son's eyes and feels sorry for him.

She hid Raheel under the cot on which her daughter-in-law was sleeping and put that dead child in front of the room’s door and opened the door. When they were about to investigate the house she said “Go see my daughter in law's dead child as well, it is because of you people and this bloody war that he has died”. They went in and on smelling the dirty smell of blood they returned back without investigating. Then Raheel was given a corner for resting. 1-2 days later they share their sorrows and joys together.

The old lady said that her husband had gone to war but he never returned back and that now even her child was at war. She also says that even when she was new to this town (around 50 years ago) there was a war that happened because of different religions that the two countries followed. She tells him that this town was in the hands of the other country and says that their religion was different from our religion so a war was something that had to happen.
